OVERVIEW
WHAT IS “PERSONAL INFORMATION”?
The term “personal information” means information about an identifiable
individual, including name, address, email address, telephone number and other
information relating to an individual.
WHAT IS THE
LCBO’S STATUTORY AUTHORITY FOR COLLECTING PERSONAL INFORMATION?
All personal information collected on LCBO websites (including www.lcbo.com,
www.vintages.com, vintagesshoponline.ca www.lcbotrade.com, www.lcbopinion.com
and www.lcbogifts.com) or when you purchase or return products, is collected
under the authority of the Liquor Control Act, Sec.3(N),R.S.O.1990
c.L.18.
WHEN DOES THE
LCBO COLLECT PERSONAL INFORMATION?
SHOPPING AT LCBO:
Product Purchase:
You do not have to provide us with any personal information when you purchase
products at one of our Stores (you may however, be asked for identification
under our Check 25 and Working SMAART programs). You will be required to provide
personal information where products are ordered on-line, through our catalogues
or through our Specialty Services Department in order to process these
transactions.
If you use a credit or debit card for your purchase, your credit/debit
card-related information and your signature are required to process your
payment.
From time to time we may request customer postal codes in a continuing effort
to increase customer satisfaction, designing our stores and product assortments.
Participation is voluntary. The postal codes help identify neighborhoods or
communities which present opportunities for store additions or changes. Customer
names and addresses are not collected or tracked for such analysis.
Product Return:
For all product returns, the LCBO requires a customer signature to
acknowledge receipt of the refund, if applicable and may collect a customer’s
name, address and telephone number in order to process the return and for fraud
prevention purposes. Valid photo identification may also be requested (but not
recorded) to confirm this information.
For product returns where a customer receives a refund on a debit or credit
card, the LCBO uses the debit and credit-related information to process and
administer the refund transaction. Where a defective or recalled product is
returned, the LCBO will require a customer’s name, address and telephone number
in order so that we may communicate with the customer regarding possible health
and safety matters, if necessary.
EMAIL AND OTHER COMMUNICATIONS:
From time to time, we may obtain your consent to send you email and other
communications about products, services, promotions or events that may be of
interest to you.

HOW IS PERSONAL INFORMATION SECURED
AND PROTECTED?
Recognizing that your privacy is important, LCBO employs technical security
measures to protect your personal information. However, no transmission over the
Internet can be guaranteed to be completely secure since "perfect security" does
not exist on the Internet. Consequently, LCBO does not represent, warrant,
covenant or guarantee the complete security of the personal information you
provide to LCBO (see details in the
LCBO Privacy Policy & Security Statement)
When you provide the LCBO with personal information such as your name, credit
card number, etc. it is done on a secure server. One of today's most advanced
security systems - Secure Socket Layers (SSL) encrypts all information you
provide before sending it to the LCBO’s own server. Only when it reaches the
LCBO server is your information decrypted.
ACCURACY AND RETENTION OF PERSONAL
INFORMATION
The LCBO will make reasonable efforts to update or correct your personal
information when you request it as long as it does not compromise LCBO’s privacy
or security interest.
LCBO will keep your personal information for as long as it remains necessary
for the identified purposes or as required by law, which may extend beyond the
termination of our relationship with you.
WHAT ARE COOKIES AND HOW ARE THEY
USED?
The LCBO may also collect information about your use of our Website through
the use of “cookies.” Cookies are small data files that are sent to your browser
and stored on your computer's hard-drive when you visit certain websites,
thereby "tracking" use of the Website. Some browsers can be set to reject all
cookies; if you choose to modify your browser, some pages of the Website may not
function properly.
LCBO uses the information generated through the use of cookies to, for
example, estimate the number of people that are using the Website, to track the
pages of the Website that are being visited and generally to track trends and
patterns. This information tells LCBO about user interests and behaviours which
can, in turn, be used to design and target advertising and promotions.
Aggregate information obtained through cookies may be disclosed to third
parties but no personal information which identifies you will be released.
Note: This Privacy Policy constitutes part of the
LCBO Privacy
Policy & Security Statement which may be changed from time to time. You
